College of Chemistry and Life Sciences (CCLS) was founded in October, 1999. CCLS has 91 faculty and 36 staff membersincluding 1 Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Thousand Talents Program scholar, 1 National High Level Foreign Expert, 4 Provincial Thousand Talents Program scholars, 3 Provincial Government Appointed Professors, 8 level 1 or 2 scholars of Provincial 151 Talents Program, 15 Provincial Mid-aged and Young Leading Scientists, 34 full professors, 37 associate professors and 75 faculty members with Ph.D. Currently, CCLS has over 1300 full-time undergraduate and 500 postgraduate students.

Undergraduate Education:

        The college consists of Department of Chemistry, Biological science, Science Education, Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology, and offers five majors at undergraduate level: Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Biological Science, Biotechnology, and Science Education.

        Biological Science has been entitled as the Provincial Advantage Major of 12th 5-Year-Planning-Project, the Key Major of Zhejiang Province, and the Elite Major of the University. Chemistry entitled as the Key Major of Zhejiang Province. Biotechnology entitled as the Key Supporting Major of Zhejiang Province, the Provincial New Emerging Major with Distinguishing Features of Undergraduate Colleges during 12th 5-Year-Planning-Project and the Internationalized Major of Zhejiang Normal University. Applied Chemistry entitled as the Key Supporting Major of Zhejiang Province, Provincial New Emerging Major with Distinguishing Features of Undergraduate Colleges during 12th 5-Year-Planning-Project and Internationalized Major of Zhejiang Normal University.

Postgraduate Education:

        CCLS recruits master graduate students in three primary disciplines (Chemistry, Biology and Ecology), eleven secondary disciplines (Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Physics, Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and Microbiology), 2 Educational Disciplines (Chemistry Education and Biology Education) and 2 Agriculture Extension Programs (Crops and Cultivation).

Key Laboratories:

        CCLS has state-of-the-art laboratories, including 1 Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education-Advanced Catalytic Materials, and 3 Provincial Key Laboratories: Reacting Chemistry on Solid Surface, Biotechnology on Specialty Economic Plants and Biotechnology, Conservation and Utilization of Wild Lives, which are available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Key Disciplines and Demonstration Centers:

        Key Disciplines and Demonstration Centers in CCLS used to cultivate students spirit of exploration and innovation, include 1 Team of Creativity and Innovation of the Ministry of Education Advanced Catalytic Materials; 2 Provincial Top Key Disciplines: Chemistry and Biology, 2 Provincial Key Disciplines of 12th 5-Year-Planning-Project: Ecology, and Applied Chemistry; 2 Provincial Experimental Education Innovation Centers: Chemistry and Biology. The Biology center is being poised to be a Provincial Key Supporting Projects of 12th 5-Year-Planning-Project; 1 Team of Creativity and Innovation of the Provincial Universities: Plant Molecular Biology; 2 Graduate Education Innovation and Demonstration Bases of Zhejiang Province: ZJNU-ZJAAS Modern Agricultural Biotechnology and ZJNU-Juhua Group Corporation R&D of Fluorine Chemical Engineering.

Research Space and Facility:

        The college has a space of more than 20000 m2 for research with various advanced cutting-edge instruments and equipment including NMR Spectrometer, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope, Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electronic Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy and Single-crystal Diffractometer.

Grants and Publications:

       Since 2010, the faculty members have been awarded a total of 90 million RMB funding from 67 national grants (one of which is the national key grant) and 88 provincial or ministry grants, published 468 papers in SCI/EI journals. The Chemistry Discipline reaches top 1% in worldwide ESI rankings.

Achievement s and Honors of the Students:

       The college focuses on the cultivation of students' innovative spirits and practical abilities as well as on improving students' comprehensive qualities. Since 2010, the full-time undergraduate students have published over 250 scientific papers, some of which are in SCI journals. The students have won several national and provincial awards in the academic competitions. One of the students was awarded National Merit Student.
